A LUCKY youngster was treated to a day of archaeology after winning a competition.

David Turner, nine, from Stamford, won a Mercury competition to spend a day at the summer school at Flag Fen in Peterborough.

He and other youngsters dug in test pits alongside experts working on a three-week project.

Demonstrator Fiona Wagstaff showed how ancient civilisations would carry out the practice of trepanning, a primitive surgical procedure.
