The deadline to apply for tickets for a service to recognise the hard work of soldiers is fast approaching.
Oakham Town Council will be awarding the honour of the Freedom of Entry to Oakham to St George’s Barracks in North Luffenham, during a ceremony which will be held in Market Place in Oakham on Tuesday, April 23.
The 250 soldiers will then march through the town with a military band.
Beforehand there will be a service in All Saints’ Church, Oakham, which starts at 2pm and will be attended by military personnel and civic dignitaries.
Oakham Town Council has made a limited number of seats available for the church ceremony but is asking people to apply for a ticket in writing. The deadline is Friday, March 15, and anyone who wishes to apply should write to the town clerk at Oakham Town Council, Victoria Hall, 39 High Street, Oakham, LE15 6AH.
If the numbers exceed the limited seats available, a draw will take place. Tickets will be sent out at the end of March.
