A women’s lunch club has donated £54,000 to a cancer charity.

Burghley Park and Peterborough Ladies’ Luncheon Club presented a cheque for the money to representatives of Cancer Research UK at Burghley House in Stamford on Tuesday. The money was raised during the year through various events, including a musical evening. It will pay towards clinical trials on treatments for different cancers at the oncology ward at Peterborough City Hospital.

Lunch club chairman Annette Beeton said they were delighted to be able to help cancer patients across the area.

She said: “We chose to raise money for the cancer charity because it is a disease which affects so many people.”
