A LANDLORD is celebrating after his pub won a top title.

The Plough in Main Street, Greetham, has been announced as the winner of the Rutland branch of the Campaign for Real Ale’s Pub of the Year title for 2012.

Ian Smeeton and his wife Kath run the pub and said they were proud to win the award.

Mr Smeeton said: “Kath and I have worked hard over the 13 years that we have been at the Plough and have come second in the competition for the last two years.

“It was with some trepidation that we awaited the result.”

The branch looked at all the pubs in the county before naming the winner. The Blue Bell in Belmesthorpe came second.

Pubs officer Alan Pickersgill said: “The Plough is exactly what we are looking for to become our Pub of the Year 2012. Ian and Kath have built up a successful business which has a good following.

“The Plough is a real hub of the community.

“Our team of judges were very impressed with what they found.”
