A couple have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with friends and family at big surprise party.

Edward, 89 and Ellen Hayford, 82, of Heathcote Road, Bourne have been married for 60 years.

The couple moved to Bourne 20 years ago to be closer to their daughter Lesley Wickson, 59, and her husband Richard 62, who live in Carlby.

On the couple’s anniversary on November 1, family and friends visited with gifts and Bourne mayor Helen Powell brought the couple a chocolate gateau.

They also received a letter from the Queen congratulating them on their achievement.

On the following Saturday they were picked up by their grandson Mark Wickson, 25, and his wife Sarah, 25, who whisked them away for a surprise party with 30 of their closest friends and family.

Ellen said: “I was absolutely speechless when I went in and saw all the people there.

“We got lots of lovely presents and cards from all our friends and family. It was a really lovely day.”

The couple met while the lived in London and were married at St John’s Church in Holloway in 1952.
