It was a summer fete like no other at a care home as a flock of doves were released.

The summer fair at Digby Court care home in Christopher’s Lane, Bourne, opened on Saturday with mayor David Higgs releasing white doves.

The doves were lent by acting home manager Janet Tyldesley who also brought along one of her racing pigeons.

As well as the feathered attraction there were the usual stalls, a tombola and raffle that raised £990 for the Residents’ Amenities Fund, which helps to pay for trips out and other extras to enhance the lives of residents.

Home activities co-ordinator Maria Fryer said: “It went really well.

“It was lovely to have the birds there and I think everyone was quite impressed by them.”

Maria said the event was supported by resident’s families.
