Sport England has set aside money to improve opportunities for disabled athletes.

The Northamptonshire Disability Rowing Association was given £8,730 for new equipment which will be added to the £1,500 already raised by Oundle Town Rowing Club and Oundle School Boat Club.

The stable Quad, oars, floats and cox box will allow disabled people in East Northamptonshire to have a go at rowing.

Rowing coach Anita Dunn said: “We are delighted with this award. It will have a significant impact on our ability to provide good facilities for disabled rowers.”

Sport England also gave £4,000 to the Leicestershire Disability Athletics Development Group, which operates in Rutland, to buy a racing wheelchair, throwing frame and specialist starting equipment for deaf athletes.
