A council chairman donated more than £2,000 to a cancer charity in memory of his late wife.

Coun David Nalson (Con), who chairs South Kesteven District Council, gave a cheque for £2,200 to volunteers at the Cancer Research UK shop in High Street, Stamford.

Coun Nalson chose to support the charity this year as his late wife Wendy died of cancer.

He said: “I am sure we will beat cancer but we need to fund research to do that.”

The money was raised at events throughout the last year, including a civic function at All Saints’ Church in Stamford and a gala at the Guildhall in Grantham.
