FARMER Dave Stanley has won the Best Farm and Rural Enterprise prize at an environmental awards ceremony for businesses in Lincolnshire.

Dave, of Holly Farm, Dyke, won the award, run by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, for practising what he preaches about sustainability on his own small holding.

On his 30 acres of grassland Dave demonstrated what can be achieved by implementing environmentally friendly practices.

By monitoring the carbon levels in the soil he has demonstrated the role that mixed farming with cattle grazing can have in removing carbon from the atmosphere and locking it into the soil.

Producing a model for working that could be followed elsewhere.

On receiving the award, Dave said: “I would like to receive this on behalf of all farmers who are doing their bit to improve the environment.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed participating in the awards today and seeing the enthusiasm of the other entrants.”
