A NEW engine is on the cards for a boat serving an island in Africa after a successful early Christmas sale.
The event in Oakham Congregational Church Hall in High Street, Oakham, was hosted by the Likoma Link Trust and raised £815 for a new engine for the small boat that picks up the island’s supplies.
Among the Christmas decorations, cards and wrapping paper were a tombola, a raffle and bric-a-brac.
Secretary Maggie McLester, of Dove Close, Oakham, said: “It was amazing. That little boat is vital to the people of Likoma and we have had a really good start.”
A coffee morning on November 12 and a performance by the Tudor Choir on December 10 both in Oakham Methodist Church will go towards the same cause.
