A student has been awarded a £1,000 bursary to study at university.

New College Stamford Year 12 student Spencer Turner was given the scholarship by the University of Lincoln.

Spencer was identified by his teachers as having the potential to study at university.

He was one of 50 students to have been chosen for the scheme.

University of Lincoln vice chancellor professor Mary Stuart said: “At our graduation ceremonies, we are reminded of the remarkable journeys many students go through to achieve their goals.

“We hope these scholarships will encourage talented young people of all backgrounds to see that higher education is not just the preserve of the privileged.”
