Council reviewing treatment of children with special needs in schools

A COUNCIL is investigating claims that schools are discouraging children with special needs.

Lincolnshire County Council is launching a review following complaints from parents that some teachers were subtly dissuading certain pupils from applying.

Parents have been urged to share their experiences of finding a school with the council.

Chairman of the children and young people scrutiny committee, Steve Williams, said: “The review will enable us to get a clear picture of admissions and exclusions in the county and identify any problem areas that need addressing.

“A review is timely with the increasing number of academies and the new school admission code which comes into force in February 2012.”
