Young chess players became the pride of their school after achieving record results in a county tournament.
Pupils from the Knights Chess Club at Malcolm Sargent Primary School in Stamford took part in the annual Lincolnshire school chess megafinal in North Hykeham.
Pupils from all year groups, including James Mills from Year 1 and alumnus Luke Tooth, who is now in Year 7 at Bourne Grammar School, took on the county’s best.
They fought six one-hour rounds against representatives from 18 schools across Lincolnshire.
The result was five qualifications for the “Gigafinal-north” in Manchester and four “supremo” and “suprema” titles for the best in their year groups in Lincolnshire.
Also competing alongside James and Luke were Valentina Lees, Sam Simpson, Nicole Rollinson, Georgina Nicholson, Nicholas Lees and Jack Burton.
Coach David Lees praised the pupils for their success.
