Leicester Tigers legend Austin Healey, who is widely regarded as one of the finest rugby players of his generation, has visited Oakham School to put on a rugby masterclass for the school’s first and second teams.
As well as being a Tiger, Austin represented his England and toured with the British and Irish Lions.
During the session, he had the chance to team up with his former Tigers teammate, Glenn Gelderbloom, who is now Oakham’s 1st XV coach.
During the training afternoon, he ran a decision making session and showed the players how it should be done.
Oakham School’s director of rugby Ian Smith, who also knew Austin from his time as coach at the Leicester Tigers, said: “It was great to see two of my former charges putting a new generation of Oakham players through their paces.”
He said all of the pupils who took part thoroughly appreciated the opportunity to learn first-hand from his experience.
Austin has recently just moved into Rutland and is currently working as a pundit with BT Sport.
