A memorial service to celebrate the life of a greatly respected former teacher at Witham Hall School will take place later this month.
The service remembering John Tate will take place on Saturday, April 26, at 11am at St Andrew’s Church, Witham-on-the-Hill and former pupils, parents, friends and staff are welcome to attend.
Mr Tate, who died in January aged 78, joined the school in 1962 and became a deeply influential schoolmaster to many generations of children over 38 years’ service.
Many pupils who passed through the school during his time there remember his detailed organising of shoe-cleaning, the moving of chairs to the village church, the detailed laying out of desks in preparation for exams - with the precision of a state banquet- the need for every child to have a pencil, rubber, ruler all placed in exactly the same way, his gentle pastoral care, his invitations to tea and his particular care of those who were new - both pupils and staff. He was a greatly respected master.
Indication of attendance to Witham Hall Alumni Officer Viv Stanton via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org would be greatly appreciated.
