Last week, Harington School in Oakham opened its doors for the very first time, becoming one of 52 new free schools opening across the country.

Harington School welcomed its pupils with a full school assembly and an induction day last Friday.

Haringtonians, as they will be known, joined together with staff to begin their A Level courses.

In her inaugural address to the new community, Dyl Powell, the new head of Harington said: “This is the start of a very historic and exciting time. We are all at the beginning of Harington School – our school. It will be what we make it – we will get from it what we want and what we deserve.

“As the first Haringtonians, we have traditions to make, we have a community to build and we will have successes to celebrate.”
