A COMMONWEALTH Games and future Olympic hopeful gave a breath-taking display of gymnastics in front of pupils yesterday.

Children and staff at Morton Primary School gasped as Great Britain gymnast Harry Owen performed an amazing routine of floor exercises - including a flying forward somersault.

His visit was arranged with the organisation Sport for School, which raises funds for athletes and schools at the same time.

The Morton pupils did their bit for the scheme too by taking part in a series of sponsored exercises.

Headteacher George Trafford said to have someone so talented just a couple of metres away was fantastic.

He added: “It is a great start to our celebrations for the Olympic year. Hopefully it will enthuse some of the children to take up gymnastics.

“All the children were buzzing and one boy, who is only ever interested in football, said it was incredible.”
