PUPILS at Oakham School achieved excellent GCSE results with nearly one third of all exam entries achieving the top A* grade.

More than 65 per cent of exams have been marked A* or A and a quarter of all pupils achieved straight A*s and As.

Five Oakhamians each achieved 10 A* grades. They were Misha Knight, who lives in Oakham; George Fox, also from Oakham; Isabel Guy from Bicester in Oxfordshire; Tristan Abraham, from Leicester; and Imogen Leaning, from Castle Bytham. Another 14 pupils were awarded eight or more A* grades.

Headteacher Nigel Lashbrook said: “I am delighted that the success of recent years has continued with another excellent set of GCSE results.

“It is particularly pleasing to see a third of all examination entries being awarded the A* grade and this has happened in a year when, for the first time, all of the core GCSE subjects have followed the more academically rigorous IGCSE specifications.

“I congratulate all the students and their teachers for their commitment and well deserved success.”
