Hardworking pupils get their reward
Bourne Grammar School welcomed parents and students to a speech night at Bourne Abbey to celebrate the achievements of pupils.
The varied talents and interests of the school were reflected throughout the evening, with performances by the school orchestra, gospel choir and drama group, which presented a snippet from the school’s forthcoming production, The History Boys.
Well over 100 awards were handed out to pupils.
Guest of honour was former Bourne Grammar School pupil Murray Grant, who attended the school between 1991 and 1998.
He spoke of the journey he made through school and further education, attending Corpus Christi College in Oxford and being called to the Bar, where he now works as a barrister specialising in employment and discrimination cases.
Murray paid tribute to the education and life skills he gained at Bourne Grammar School that set him on his chosen career path.
Headteacher Jonathan Maddox said: “The speech night is one of the most special events in the school’s calendar and is truly a wonderful celebration for students, parents and teachers.
“The school has an exceptional amount of talented and hard working students, who achieve success whatever their academic ability, and we would like to include more of them in the evening, but for now we are limited by the number of people the venue can accommodate.”
