A TEENAGER from The Deepings School will compete in the national final of a cookery contest.

Hayley Cancea, 13, will take on 11 other competitors in the FutureChef competition at Westminster Kingsway College in London on March 26.

To win her place Hayley created a two-course meal within 90 minutes. She cooked venison with a confit potato, swede puree, carrots and a port and juniper berry sauce and a chocolate fondant with Chantilly cream.

Hayley’s mentor was Paul Reseigh who is head chef at The George Hotel in Stamford. He said: “Hayley is a fantastic student with lots of talent. She comes up with strong ideas and is very creative. In an industry which is usually dominated by males, it is great to see Hayley has done so well.”

Headteacher at The Deepings School, Chris Beckett, added: “We are very proud of Hayley and know how hard she has worked to get to this stage – it is a fantastic achievement.”
