The High Sheriff of Rutland visited a preparatory school to talk about his role.
Bart Hellyer, who holds the role for a year, visited Brooke Priory School in Oakham on Thursday last week.
He spoke to all the pupils during an assembly, where he explained the relevance of his role, which is a traditional role and is the oldest secular office in England after the Crown.
The children were delighted to learn that he had met Her Majesty the Queen on a number of occasions and that he also had the opportunity to meet many special people, including David Cameron.
The boys and girls were totally absorbed throughout his talk.
Head boy Oliver Drakard said: “We all enjoyed Mr Hellyer’s visit and learned a lot.”
