A TEACHER waved goodbye to a primary school on Friday after 21 years in the job.

Kate Markless retired from Leighfield Primary School in Uppingham and has spent the last eight years as Year 6 teacher.

To mark her retirement, she received a framed print from artist Andrzej Kuhm, an artist she has admired since taking children on a school trip to Goldmark Gallery about 15 years ago.

She also had a meal with present and former staff.

Mrs Markless said: “I have stayed in this job so long because of the people and I leave with a lot of happy memories.

“It has been a very emotional last day.”
