King’s Cliffe Endowed School pupils plant orchard for a healthy lifestyle

YOUNGSTERS sowed the seed for a healthy lifestyle by planting an orchard.
Pupils at King’s Cliffe Endowed School were joined by volunteers from Transition King’s Cliffe to plant more than 30 apple trees on land behind the school buildings on Friday last week.
Children currently eat an apple a day as part of the school’s healthy eating policy.
The school hopes the new orchard, which contains a range of old local varieties, will provide fruit for the whole school for years to come.
Matthew Kirk is part of Transition King’s Cliffe, which aims to make the community more self-reliant and eco-sensitive.
He said: “The kids will be learning the skills needed to nurture the trees for themselves, and they will pass that knowledge on to future generations of pupils.”
