Lord Coe will visit a primary school in Stamford on Friday to meet children who have been inspired to take up sport.

He will be at St Gilbert’s Primary School in Stamford to find out more about Inspire+, a charity which works in partnership with South Kesteven District Council to support schools and develop PE.

The day will also mark the launch of an Olympic Legacy Challenge, in which sports ambassadors from schools across the district will be tasked with inspiring their fellow pupils to take part in sport.

The chief executive officer of Inspire+ Vincent Brittain said he was looking forward to meeting Lord Coe.

He said: “We will be launching the challenge during the main assembly at St Gilbert’s where young ambassadors from the town will be able to put questions to Lord Coe during a question and answer session.

“They will play a lead role within their schools in encouraging young people to get involved in this key initiative which supports the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games aspiration of ‘Inspire a Generation’.

“Pupils who complete challenges will receive bronze, silver and gold medals to mark their accomplishments.”

Also meeting Lord Coe will be South Kesteven District Council’s Olympic champion councillor John Smith, cabinet portfolio holder for green, healthy and arts, as well as St Gilbert’s School headteacher Claire Thorley and headteachers from other schools in Stamford.

Coun Smith said: “Inspire+ has done an amazing job of promoting Olympic values within our schools over the last year and the next year looks equally exciting with the launch of the Legacy Challenge programme.

“We are hugely proud to be working with them to encourage as many young people to take part in physical, cultural and volunteering activities right across our district.”

After his visit to St Gilbert’s School, Lord Coe will continue to Stamford Endowed Schools, where he will officially open the school’s £6.1m sports centre and pool in Conduit Road.

He will be given a tour of the school’s facilities before officially declaring it open during a ceremony for invited guests.
