MATHEMATICIANS at a public school are in the national final of a maths competition.

The pupils, who all study further maths at Oakham School have won the Nottingham Regional Final of the UK Mathematics Trust’s Senior Team Maths Competition.

They beat more than 20 teams in three categories to qualify for the highly competitive national final which will be held in London in February.

Head of maths at Oakham School Camilla Darwin said: “The team had a few practice sessions in the weeks leading up to the competition and the experience they gained of the types of puzzles to be solved really paid off.

“They are thrilled to have won and look forward to competing against all the top teams nationwide in February.”
