Pupils are enjoying playtime on the seven seas after a school’s PTA won a competition for new play equipment.

Suzanne Armer and Sam Harvey of Oakham CE Primary School’s PTA went to the Education Show at the NEC in Birmingham earlier this year.

After a day of seminars and browsing stalls and exhibits, they entered their names into a prize draw. And much to their surprise, Suzanne’s name was drawn first. The pair had the pick of a range of prizes for their school, and settled on a £4,000 pirate ship and den made by Fawns.

The new equipment was installed this term and the children are enjoying pretending to be pirates.

Acting headteacher Ashley Scott said: “The children are loving the pirate ship and den that was won by our super PTA. Ever since the equipment was fitted the children have enjoyed their break times even more. These two pieces of equipment give the children further options to enjoy role play including sailing the seven seas.”

Suzanna and Sam went to the Education Show as they are part of the PTA UK organisation. Suzanne said: “I can’t believe my name was pulled out the hat first.

“I’m glad we picked the play equipment - it’s been fantastic for the children, seeing them happy makes what we do worthwhile.

“Fawns have been fantastic while we were making our choice. We are grateful to Fawns and PTA UK.”
