SOAKED pupils undertook a water carrying challenge last week to raise money for charity,

Children from English Martyrs Primary School, in Willow Crescent, Oakham, carried water for a mle on Thursday last week for their 2012 Lent charity Catholic Overseas Development Agency.

The lower school pupils each carried a large cup of water while the older children carried a whole bucket full. A prize was awarded to the house which could retain the most water. The children also gained sponsorship for taking part in the event, raising more than £420 for charity.

St Edmund Campion house was the eventual winner.

School administrator Jennifer Iden said: “We were lucky that it was a beautiful sunny day because many of the children ended up covered in water, especially those trying to carry the buckets on their heads.”
