Youngsters at Brooke Priory School in Oakham have been taking part in a range of fun activities to celebrate the school’s Book Week.

Puppets, fairytale characters and a children’s poet could be seen roaming around the school to mark the occasion.

On Monday last week, children in the school’s nursery were making puppets and writing stories as part of a workshop held by Diddley Dee Puppets.

In the afternoon, Year 6 pupils were given a poetry masterclass by Oxfordshire poet and author James Carter.

On Thursday, youngsters dressed a range of book characters to look the part in the school’s library.

Headteacher Elizabeth Bell was delighted to see the children enjoying themselves and getting involved in all the activities.

She said: “It was great to see how creative the children were with their puppets and they produced some lovely poems.”
