Young hockey and netball players beat fierce competition to win a county tournament.

Pupils from St Gilbert’s Primary School in Stamford took part in the Lincolnshire School Games tournament in Grantham on Wednesday.

Two teams had qualified after winning regional events held at Stamford Queen Eleanor School, beating other schools from Stamford and Grantham.

The hockey team played the quicksticks version of the game, which pits teams of four against each other.

Quicksticks has been designed to give anyone a taste of hockey, regardless of previous experience.

A stunning performance in the regional finals from the hockey team saw them win all seven of their games.

And the team carried on their form in to the county contest, finishing joint first.

The netball team enjoyed similar success and were overall winners of their competition.
