Youngsters demonstrated democracy at work during a visit from a special guest.
Year 5 and 6 pupils at St Nicholas Primary School in Cottesmore were showing off their political knowledge as Conservative MP Sir Edward Garnier paid a visit on Friday.
Prior to the visit, pupils had spent the week learning about how parliament is run as well as holding their own election for school council. After canvassing and promoting a manifesto, pupil Tillie J Meller was elected prime minister of the school.
Teacher Helen Ray, who organised the event with colleague Sam Asplin, said: “It was a fantastic week and the kids were left buzzing. It was great to have Sir Edward as a guest.”
