A teenager is looking forward to joining a volunteering scheme this summer.

Lauren Rootham, of Newtown Crescent, Uppingham, will take part in a four-week National Citizen Service.

The programme includes a range of exciting opportunities from sports and team-building to a community action project.

Lauren, 16, is encouraging other young people to sign up.

She said: “There’s something to appeal to everyone so I’m sure it will be enjoyable and there’s nothing to lose if you give it a go.

“I’m hoping to enjoy lots of new experiences, to become more independent and to have lots of things to put on my CV.”

Lauren first heard about the scheme during a presentation at Uppingham Community College.

The scheme is run by the Lincolnshire and Rutland Education Business Partnership.

Spokesman Phil Everett said: “NCS offers a way for young people to get a step ahead of the rest.”
