A SCHOOL is celebrating after converting to an academy.

The Deepings School gained academy status on Wednesday and became the seventh academy to join the CfBT Schools Trust.

The multi-academy trust, which also covers Stamford Queen Eleanor School, allows academies to share support and experience.

Chair of governors, Jonathan Theobalds, said: “Our governing body very carefully considered the merits of becoming a standalone trust or the option of joining a multi academy trust.

“The CfBT schools trusts provided an excellent fit for our aspirations for school improvement and the opportunity to broaden our horizons and work with other schools both nationally and internationally.”

Headteacher Chris Beckett added: “At last, we can now move forward and plan for an exciting future which will see The Deepings School expand, develop new facilities and continue to be at the forefront of educational change within Lincolnshire and the wider trust.”

Converting to academy status allows schools to set their own curriculum and gives them the power to change the length of terms and school days and set their own pay and conditions for staff.
