Engine Thomas gets £5,000 renovation

A POPULAR steam engine has been renovated thanks to a £5,000 donation from an insurance brokers.

Nene Valley Railway, in Wansford, has been able to restore the well-loved Thomas engine thanks to a donation from the BGL Group.

The company, based in Orton Southgate, Peterborough, has been thanked by the railway’s general manager Cris Rees.

He said: “Thomas is a one of our main attractions and has been providing happy and educational days out to children for generations.”

Nene Valley staff have also renovated a track and service car, which makes it easier for volunteers to improve the railway.

The car was one of only seven built in 1985, but was out of use by 1998, and was found derelict at Perth, Scotland, in 2005.

It was donated by Amey Rail in 2005.
