THE number of entries at a village show had increased by 50 per cent this year.
Organisers of the Empingham Produce Show, which took place on Sunday in the Audit Hall, were delighted with the big increase in entrants and entries.
Judges from the Leicester and Leicestershire Horticultural Judges Guild were on hand to choose the winning entries in a wide range of traditional classes including vegetables, flowers, arts and crafts and home produce.
The best award in show went to the gardening club at Empingham Primary School for its leeks. This award was voted for by the public.
Awards were presented by the chairman of Voluntary Action Rutland Peter Gover. Show chairman David Hodson said there were lots of beautiful flower arrangements, which please the organisers as there had been a big effort to encourage more entries.
He added: “I am delighted at the success of this event which helps to maintain the village community spirit. It was a super team effort and level of participation by the village.”
