If you only do one thing this week

…help celebrate the launch of Fairtrade Fortnight by holding a Fairtrade dinner party.

The annual jamboree, which highlights global inequalities in trade, runs from 23 February to 8 March, and is the perfect excuse to invite some friends over and cook them a tasty meal made from Fairtrade ingredients.

If you'd have tried a similar feat a decade ago, you'd probably have had to put a banana fritter or pineapple surprise on the menu, but the range and quality of Fairtrade-certified food and drink on sale in the UK has grown substantially in recent years.

From fresh fruits and vegetables to herbs and spices to beers and wines, there are enough quality ingredients to satisfy even the most demanding of dinner guests.

If your local shop or supermarket doesn't carry an extensive range of Fairtrade goods, you can track down additional supplies by using the product finder on the Fairtrade website (www.fairtrade.org.uk). It lists thousands of Fairtrade goods, ranging from organic peppers and green beans to fruit juices, nuts, yoghurt and herbal teas, and will point you in the direction of your nearest supplier. It's incredibly easy to use and makes you realise just how far the Fairtrade movement has come in the space of just a few years.
