New toilet block at the Recreation Ground given final seal of approval
PLANS to build a new toilet block on the Recreation Ground have been given the go-ahead.
Stamford Town Council applied to South Kesteven District Council to build new facilities near the play area after the Friends of Stamford Recreation Ground raised £50,000 to pay for them.
These plans have now been approved meaning the new block can be built.
Chairman of the Friends, Penny Dawson, was delighted with the news. She said: “It’s fantastic, we are very pleased. It means we are another stage closer to getting the toilets built.
“It has taken a long time to get there but hopefully we will soon see some new toilets on the Rec.”
The project is now in the hands of the town council, which has agreed to manage the development.
The new facility will be a brick building with one cubicle for men and one for women. Both will include baby changing facilities.
The block will be built on the site of the existing toilets. The current men’s toilets are still open but are in a rundown state. The women’s toilets closed in 2008.
Numerous groups and businesses have supported the scheme, including the Rotary Club of Stamford St Martins, the Stamford and District Kiwanis and Hanson Cement.
The biggest slice of funding came from the Harry Skells Trust, which donated £20,000, and Stamford Town Council, which contributed £10,000.
