Four bee-friendly gardens have been shortlisted for the final of a county competition.

Rutland Friends of the Earth set up the contest to encourage people to attract bees to their gardens.

The winner will be picked from four shortlisted entries by award-winning garden designer Adam Frost on Friday next week, with a grand prize of £150.

The gardens that have been nominated are in The Dell, Oakham; Normanton Road, Edith Weston; Thistleton Road, Market Overton; and Bridge Road, Langham.

Rutland Friends of the Earth spokesman Gabrielle Maughan said there had been lots of excellent entries.

She added: “There were big gardens and small gardens, tidy gardens and wild gardens.

“If only all these gardens could be winners. Still, Adam Frost is a busy man and he can’t visit them all so we will have to make a painful choice then it will be over to Adam for the final decision – who will win the £150 prize.”
