A UNIVERSITY student will get on his bike and pedal a huge 2,600 miles from London to Istanbul.

Charlie Griffin, 20, of Aunby, near Stamford, will take on the epic challenge along with fellow students from Exeter University, where he is studying English.

The group of 14 will set off in July and are expecting the ride, which will take them through France, Italy, Crotia, Albania and Greece, to take a month and a half.

So far the team has raised nearly £6,000 and is hoping to hit £20,000 for Help for Heroes.

Charlie, a former Stamford School pupil, said: “A few of us are planning to go into the Army after university and Help for Heroes is a fantastic charity.

“I think it will be a huge challenge and I am looking forward to it.”

Charlie also raised funds for Help for Heroes while he was at school by kayaking down the River Welland.
