Residents and businesses in Uppingham have been given a boost in new technology following the launch of a new ultra-fast broadband service.

The Gigaclear Fibre Broadband Network has been installed in The Beeches, Uppingham Gate and Ayston Road area of the town.

The network enables Rutland Telecom, a subsidiary of Gigaclear, to provide residents with broadband speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps, putting them in the top one per cent in the country.

A demonstration day was held at three houses in The Beeches on Friday for residents to see the benefits and capabilities of the service.

The launch is the first phase of several instalments of the broadband service in the town.

Uppingham mayor Coun Dave Casewell said: “Having this improvement will greatly enhance Uppingham’s 21st century infrastructure. It will also bring a benefit to business, not only with current businesses but hopefully to attract high-tech industry to the town.”
