Finnish trip for coach James Betts from Stamford

A FOOTBALL school is celebrating after a series of successes.

Football Development Schools coach James Betts, from Stamford, was chosen to go to Finland to help youngsters improve their football skills.

Children travelled for up to five hours to be trained by English coaches

James, a qualified West Bromwich Albion youth coach, was specially chosen by Kit Carson who runs soccer schools in Finland.

James said: “I have travelled to many countries as a youngster playing in tournaments but this Finland trip is up there amongst the best.

“Finnish children are very easy to coach as they listen very well and work very hard, their level of ability is to the highest standards I have ever coached.”

Leon Kavanagh, eight, and his five-year-old brother Lenny, who play for Football Development Schools, were also chosen to take part in a series of tournament matches at the West Bromwich Albion training ground.

And Football Development Schools is also looking for players to join its development centre, which is based at Casterton Business and Enterprise College on a Thursday evening.
