Five beautiful but very different gardens will be open to visitors on Sunday, May 17 in aid of the National Gardens Scheme.

Manton Grange has a 2½
acre garden with water features and a lime tree walk; Shapinsay has views over the Chater valley, a woodland walk and a stream linking numerous ponds constructed by a local RHS gold medal garden designer; Manton Lodge Farm is nestled into the hillside with paths leading through borders of shrubs, roses and perennials

The two smaller gardens at 22 Lyndon Road and 3 St Mary's Road show how to maximise space with unusual plants and decorative pots. There is wheelchair and buggy access to Manton Lodge and Shapinsay.

The joint admission charge to these privately owned gardens at Manton on the south shore of Rutland Water, is £5 for adults and free for children under 16 years.

Opening times are 12.30pm to 5pm and refreshments, including ploughman's lunches and home made cakes, will be available at Manton Village Hall. Proceeds from the sale of refreshments will go to the village hall.

In past 10 years NGS has donated more than £22 million to charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Help the Hospices, Carers Trust and Parkinson's UK.
