A church will be filled with colour and aromas as it hosts its first flower arranging festival in almost 60 years.

Stamford Floral Arrangement Society is preparing to hold the event in St John’s Church from Thursday until August 26.

Displays from the club’s members will be put up around the church along with arrangements from children of Stamford Montessori School and Copthill School.

The arrangements will include connections to famous Stamford residents; among them Malcolm Sargent, who was a chorister at St John’s.

Money raised at the event will go to the Wings for Warriors charity and The Church’s Conservation Trust.

Society chairman Marilyn Williams said: “The ladies of the flower club have been very supportive of the idea so next week will see many months of planning and designing culminate with the church decorated with hundreds of flowers in all style of arrangement with something to suit all tastes.

“It will be a spectacular event not to be missed.”

Admission to the festival between 10am and 6pm will be £3 per person.

A preview evening will be held on Wednesday. For more information and tickets call Marilyn on 01780 767983.
