Over the weekend chocolatier Jan Hansen has created his giant Easter egg, using a sweet tooth tingling 150kg of chocolate.
Visitors to Hansen’s Chocolate House in Folkingham have been impressed by the 7ft egg, which Jan has made over 20 hours by layering chocolate onto a metal frame.
“It was exhausting, but it is fantastic to see the looks on people’s faces. One little lad, a four-year-old, looked a bit scared by it!” said Jan. Proving particularly popular are selfies with the egg, with the confectioner of 29 years adding: “What’s so lovely about this is that everyone in the community is getting involved, from every age group.”
The eggs-treme Easter treat is on display at Hansen’s workshop in the Market Place from Wednesday to Sunday this week and next week.
It has been created to raise money for the St Barnabas Hospice in Grantham, and as well as asking visitors to shell out any donations, they can purchase raffle tickets to win prizes including a big chocolate hen, teddy bear and Easter eggs.
After several requests, Jan is also considering auctioning off pieces of the giant egg itself, and is confident that they will eggs-ceed their eggs-pected £1,000 target.
