AN OUTGOING mayor donated more than £3,000 to his two chosen charities.

Stamford Town Councillor John Binder, who finished his one year term as mayor of Stamford last month, gave cheques to the Evergreen Care Trust and Teenzone at a ceremony on Monday.

The money was raised through donations over Coun Binder’s term, including many from the annual mayor’s charity dinner in March.

Coun Binder praised the work of the two charities. He said: “I wanted to support one charity that caters for youngsters and one that looks after older people.

“They are two worthwhile charities and I am very pleased to be able to do something for them.”

Coun Binder was succeeded as mayor by Bob Sandall.
