A FORMER Stamford town councillor died of cancer on Saturday, aged 62.

Jane Peckett, who stepped down from the town council at the elections in May, died in Peterborough City Hospital surrounded by her family.

Stamford town councillor Maureen Jalili, who became friends with Mrs Peckett about seven years ago through the Grantham and Stamford Liberal Democrats group, paid tribute to her.

Coun Jalili said: “We were very close and it has been a very sad time.

“Jane was a very hard working councillor, particularly through her interest in sports, and I think she will be very sadly missed.”
