Shoppers and visitors to Oakham and Uppingham can enjoy free parking after 10am on Saturday, December 6, as part of Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is a non-commercial campaign which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to use local retailers and service providers.

Celebrated across the UK, the initiative falls on the first Saturday in December each year but aims to have a lasting positive impact on small businesses.

In support of this year’s campaign, Rutland County Council has organised free parking in public car parks owned by the local authority, with all parking restrictions suspended after 10am on December 6.

The measures will apply across both towns, with the exception of Burley Road car park in Oakham.

Coun Terry King (Con), deputy leader of Rutland County Council and portfolio holder for development, said: “Oakham and Uppingham are home to a fantastic array of small, independent businesses which add tremendous value to our local economy, not to mention the wider community. We hope people will make the most of the opportunity to park for free on December 6 and support local traders – especially in the run-up to Christmas.”

Rutland County Council is hoping to share associated costs with both Town Councils and Partnerships, along with Uppingham First.

Consumers and businesses can get involved with Small Business Saturday.
