A determined fundraiser is set to take on a big swimming challenge in aid of a cause close to her heart.

Vicky Maskell, 29, is taking part in the Great North Swim tomorrow (Friday) at Lake Windermere to raise funds for the Leukaemia Research Fund at Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust.

Her dad, Tim Maskell, of Langham, received pioneering and life-saving treatment last year at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, funded by the trust.

He was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour that had never been successfully treated in the UK.

In July last year he was given just weeks to live, and the option to trial new, untested chemotherapy drugs which might give him a couple of extra months. Tim took the chance and MRI scans show that he is in remission.

Vicky said: “The care and attention my dad received from Addenbrooke’s was second to none. The treatment genuinely saved his life.”
