The Recreation Ground in Bourne was packed with visitors on Sunday for the second annual family fun day.

Young and old alike enjoyed the event, which was hosted by the Bourne and District Lions Club.

The club launched the fun day last year as a community event aimed at children, which proved a success, but this year’s event was even more popular.

Organisers were nervous as heavy rain showers started while they were setting up, but the wet weather didn’t deter visitors and it soon cleared up.

Activities included a junior football competition, a dog show, displays by young dancers and martial arts groups, as well as craft stalls and refreshments.

Magician Olliwiz proved particularly popular with the younger children.

The event closed with a flypast by the Hurricane and Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which delighted visitors as they swooped over a few times.

Lion Graham Crane said: “It went really well, we were very pleased. When it started raining, our hearts stopped a bit as we thought we were going to lose the crowds but it was absolutely packed all day.

“The flypast was particularly wonderful - that was a real treat for everyone.

“There’s a lot of hard work from all the Lions members that goes into the running of the event and there was a lot of community involvement with the youngsters. It really was very good.”

While the Lions club does raise money for local good causes, the proceeds from this event will be ploughed back into the running of it to ensure it can continue running in the future.
