A HUSBAND who is taking on a series of charity challenges has launched an online sponsorship page.
Mike Shattock, 40, of Truesdale Gardens, Langtoft, is taking on the challenges, which include a bike ride from London to Paris in April, the New York Marathon next November and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in March 2012.
He is hoping to raise £10,000 for the Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability in Putney, South London, which is caring for his 42-year-old wife Sam.
Sam, who is mother to Harry, 15, and Zoey, 13, was taken ill in January. She suffered a cardiac arrest and stopped breathing for 40 minutes. Since May, she has been at the hospital, which relies on charity donations.
The hospital specialises in rehabilitation treatment and care for adults with complex disabilities caused by damage to the brain.
Mike has launched a Just Giving fundraising page online and is hoping people will support his venture.
He said: “If I can raise £10,000, and that helps a patient at the hospital for just 10 minutes, then it will be worth it.
“We spend time with Sam and see the fantastic work the hospital does, so I just want to raise as much as I possibly can.”
A page on social networking website Facebook dedicated to the challenge – which is called the Yellow Beetle Challenge in honour of the car Sam was known for travelling in – has attracted nearly 500 followers.
