A TEAM of amateur golfers took part in a marathon match to raise funds for charity.

Chris Thomas, 36, of Kilburn Road, Oakham and three friends completed four rounds of golf in a day at Rutland Water Golf Course for the Macmillan Cancer Support Longest Golf Challenge.

The challenge included 72 holes, 360 shots and a 20 mile walk around the course in Manton. The golfers have raised more than £1,300 and are still taking collections.

Joining were Will Davis, 37, from Langham, Owen Dearling, 36, from Norwich, and Piers Tanner, 37, from Market Harborough.

The challenge is a national annual event organised by the charity. Last year 335 teams took part in the challenge across the country, raising more than £395,000 to help people affected by cancer in the UK.
